FACELESS By Alyssa Sheinmel

Emotions were uncontrollable while I was reading this book. Reading along through Maisie's terrible accident broke my heart in two because it was another case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Visualising the excruciating pain she went through makes me shudder, as nothing becomes impossible in these situations. I also managed to learn something new. I never knew that a face transplant could occur, let alone use another person's face to plaster a patient's. I also grasped how important looks really are to relationships, no matter what people say, as demonstrated with Maisie's boyfriend, best friend and parents. The plot had a clever twist at the very beginning, where Maisie was aware of the danger ahead, but wasn't aware she got caught up in it. In artistically described moments, (such as the one above) special attachments are caused, especially to the main character, where sympathy spews out of you like a volcano! Personally, I wanted to scream at Maisie and tell her to stop tangling herself further but shout for help. Sections like these is where the engagement is at its peak, allowing for you to explore through the story, rather than simply reading it. I adore the language used, as it helps to, chronologically, develop the story, while still pulling the reader in. I rate this book FOUR STARS!
